Constitution update - 2026

The Nelson Women’s Centre, constitutional updates are primarily technical changes to ensure our Constitution complies with the Incorporated Societies Act 2022 and reflects current governance best practice. They do not alter the Vision, Mission, Objectives, or core values of Nelson Women’s Centre, nor do they change how we deliver our services or support our community. The amendments are designed to strengthen transparency, accountability, and legal clarity while preserving the heart and purpose of our organisation.

📌 Key Constitutional Updates (2026):

  • Amendment threshold increased to a two-thirds majority.
  • Membership consent must now be in writing.
  • Quorum for General Meetings updated to 25% of members (minimum five).
  • Upper limit introduced for Governance Committee membership.
  • Added indemnity and insurance provisions as permitted by law.
  • Clarified member liability, notice procedures, access to the Constitution, officer requirements, and audit provisions to ensure full compliance with the Incorporated Societies Act 2022.
