OUR VOLUNTEERS 🌸
Some quietly nurture the space through daily chores, while others lead creative workshops, host gatherings, or lend their warmth to hosting and support roles. Many go above and beyond to ensure our services run smoothly and our community feels cared for.

We are incredibly grateful for the dedication and spirit of our volunteers—the Centre simply couldn’t thrive without them.
Penny Molnar - Community Connector
A founding member of the Nelson Women’s Centre, Penny has been a driving force behind many community-led initiatives since the 1990s. “It’s been life-changing to be part of something that’s so responsive to real community needs,” she reflects. From starting the first after-school and holiday programme in Nelson in 1995—later passed on to the YMCA—to helping shape collaborative services at the Centre, her contribution has been both visionary and hands-on.
“I’ve made lifelong friendships here. This is a place where ideas can grow into action,” she says. Passionate about community development, Penny sees the Centre as a space where collective creativity and compassion come together. “We can cross boundaries if your heart is in the right place.
It’s about seeing a need and responding—together.”
She hopes the Centre continues to be seen as more than a service provider. “Let’s stay open to whatever women want to bring here. The heart of this place is possibility.”

Paige - NMIT Social Work Student
Paige is the Women Centre’s new student social worker. She is doing her course placement with us until late August 2026 and she works alongside and is mentored by Louise, the Centre's social worker.
Paige loves meeting new people and forming connections at the centre. She says, “Everyone is lovely”.
As a Maori wahine, Paige likes discovering her whakapapa and contributing to the Maori women’s space.
In her 3rd year of a 4-year degree, Paige reflects on how much she has changed and grown since starting her study.
When she graduates, Paige is keen to specialise in the mental health sphere, but she remains open to other possibilities.
In her spare time, Paige likes singing and music.
