OUR VOLUNTEERS 🌸

Volunteers are the beating heart of Centre. They come from all walks of life and bring with them a rich diversity of skills, experiences, and passions. From digging in the garden and tidying the villa, to welcoming visitors and helping run activities, our volunteers play a hands-on role in making the Centre feel like home.

Some quietly nurture the space through daily chores, while others lead creative workshops, host gatherings, or lend their warmth to hosting and support roles. Many go above and beyond to ensure our services run smoothly and our community feels cared for.

We are incredibly grateful for the dedication and spirit of our volunteers—the Centre simply couldn’t thrive without them.

Penny Molnar

A founding member of the Nelson Women’s Centre, Penny has been a driving force behind many community-led initiatives since the 1990s. “It’s been life-changing to be part of something that’s so responsive to real community needs,” she reflects. From starting the first after-school and holiday programme in Nelson in 1995—later passed on to the YMCA—to helping shape collaborative services at the Centre, her contribution has been both visionary and hands-on.

“I’ve made lifelong friendships here. This is a place where ideas can grow into action,” she says. Passionate about community development, Penny sees the Centre as a space where collective creativity and compassion come together. “We can cross boundaries if your heart is in the right place.

It’s about seeing a need and responding—together.”

She hopes the Centre continues to be seen as more than a service provider. “Let’s stay open to whatever women want to bring here. The heart of this place is possibility.”
